To fight poverty in the rural area in Uvira district by setting up a financial institution which can offer durable financial services to the poor. Background and Main Challenges: Coopec Kalundu is a savings and credit cooperative. It was started in 1988 by Pastor Kiza Muhato after realizing that women and the poor communities did not have access to alternative financial services, and were becoming poorer and poorer due to the worsening Zairian economy at the time. Our main challenge is that Coopec is undercapitalized and the loan fund fund is much lower than the credit demand. Coopec is a member of the following IMF networks: INAFI Africa and INAISE
