Working Group of indigenous minorities in Southern Africa WIMSA
WIMSA - the Working Group of Indigenous Minorities in Southern Africa – is a non-governmental network that coordinates and represents the interests of indigenous and highly marginalised San peoples throughout southern Africa.
WIMSA works to develop representative San councils that lobby on behalf of San peoples living in Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, and Angola. It gives communities a voice to carry out their own advocacy and campaigning work.
WIMSA helps San communities assert their basic human rights. It leads regional education initiatives that improve access to formal education. It coordinates activities that protect and promote San culture and heritage, including intellectual property rights. Finally, WIMSA assists San communities and individuals to set up their own development initiatives, community-based organisations and commercial ventures.
