Mud Hut Trading sells a large range of top quality Namibian hand made products, including contemporary and traditional baskets, jewellery, textiles, artworks, traditional utensils and decorative gift items. They are primarily made of the natural resources local producers are surrounded by - our traditional baskets for example are woven from palm fibre and perennial grasses and dyed with natural plant dyes - and many retain the earthy naturalness of their materials.
Producers
We work with over 400 producers from several different ethnic groups from 11 regions in Namibia including the north central, Kavango, Caprivi, Kunene, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke and Karas. They form part of a network of small independent community enterprises across rural Namibia, employing traditional and new skills that range from embroidery to paper making; beading to print making. The majority are women who are frequently the bread winners of their families and the bedrock of community life in rural areas.
Fair Trade
Mud Hut Trading is a member of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) and aims to create opportunities for economically disadvantaged Namibians. We make an effort to meet the WFTO criteria to ensure that the Fair Trade ethos is honoured. Our priorities as a 'not-for-profit' organisation are to provide training, continued marketing support and recognition for the producers we work with, so they feel valued and are able to enjoy the fruit of their achievements. At the same time our customers can be confident that what they take home are quality Namibian products that have been fairly traded.
