Teachers Environment Rescue (TER) a Civil Society Organization was registered in 2004 by the Ministry of Sports, Gender, Culture and Social Services and authorized by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology to work with schools and other organized groups on matters of environment, HIV and AIDS, poverty and social moral values
TER is based in Ruiru a town within Nairobi Metropolis during her over twenty five years of teaching TER founder and Co-ordinator Margaret Mwaura felt that given their presence in every nook and cranny of every nation and their infinite opportunities to mould the minds of their worlds if teachers purposed to play by their God given role of creating in society would be achieved in no time.
Appropriate values nurtured in children and subsequently passed on to society would result in the reduction of poverty through environmental conservation and sustainable, equitable use of natural resources prevention and management of HIV and AIDS and a generally more cohesive society.
Many of conflict are about resources. Teachers in TER's perspective include all who teach others not just academic but any life skills. Some of the worlds greatest teachers including Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa to name but a few did not attend any Teachers Training College yet their lives had and continue to have great impact on our world to this day.
In a developing nation like Kenya, schools are more often than not centers of community life and TER's mission is to maximize this potential for positive social change. Environment is all that surrounds us including people. Thus all our activities are geared towards embracing everyone in the drive
