This is a membership organization that comprises of men, women and youth groups who are pastoralists of whom we support on capacity building and train them on value addition on products like milk, bones, horns etc. We are also involved in market structure development and we have MOUs with the county councils on Co-management and the committees are able to make some income for sustainability of the markets.
KLMC MAIN OBJECTIVES
To strengthen the institutional framework for development and promotion of livestock production and trade.
To enhance market access for livestock producers and traders in order to reduce poverty and increase economic empowerment
To establish a system for providing timely, reliable and relevant market information
To influence county and regional trade policies to promote pastoral livelihood and livestock trade.
To advocate for the interests and rights of the members on livestock matters in collaboration with other stakeholders.
To promote livestock and livestock products marketing in the country and in particular in pastoral areas in order to enhance and improve the economic well being of livestock producing communities.
To enhance marketing information, dissemination and communication to producers and traders
To solicit for funding including credit and offering group guarantees.
To Lobby for policy change to favour appropriate livestock development.
Build capacities of members to sustainably manage livestock related infrastructures, undertake community based disease surveillance and control measures enhance product value addition and entrepreneurship skills.
To advocate for better favourable policies and service delivery for the pastoralists in general
To organize consultative forums between producers, traders, transporters, butchers and consumers to harmonize livestock and livestock products trade.
