Eco-villages are intentional human communities developed, and intended to be socially, politically, economically and ecologically sustainable thus replicate other settlements in transforming Sub-Saharan Africa(S.S.A) The Kenya Eco-Villages Programme (KEVP) is an initiative of Community Livelihood Development Forum (COLIDEF), a Kisumu-city based Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) that seeks to improve lives for economically disadvantaged people in the Lake Victoria Basin (Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western provinces) in Kenya KEVP has been operating independently as an NGO since April 2008. Products & services Eventually, this Kenyan national NGO will be under the envisaged Africa Eco-Villages Program (AEVP), which will cover the whole Sub-Saharan region. Most of the Kenyan rural settlements are a characterized breakdown of traditional forms of community, dispersed/ dotted homesteads in small plots, sub-divided land into tiny unmanaged sections, resulting to destruction of natural habitats, poor farming systems and food insecurity. Due to scarcity of lands and related conflicts, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has also been growing in the country. The IDPs are a cause and consequence of political inter-tribal or inter-clan, water use and grazing rights conflicts. These problems are common in the Saharan region and most parts of Africa . This poor settlement trends in Kenya need to be addressed to ensure quick rural development through the adoption of the Eco-villages approach in order not to jeopardize future generations from meeting their own basic needs.
