Community Sustainable Development Empowerment Programme
Community Sustainable Development Empowerment Program (COSDEP) is a nonprofit organization (NGO) dedicated to restore and enhance households' food, nutritional and income security in Central Kenya. We do this by working towards our goal of building the rural communities' capacity to ensure continued learning, practice and spread of organic farming and other sustainable technologies for healthy living. It was founded in 2001 as a Community Based Organization (CBO) targeting Kiambu. But in response to increased need and demand for its services from other areas, became a non-governmental Organization (NGO) in 2004. Ever since COSDEP has reached out and already is working with farmers in parts of six districts namely Kiambu, Lari, Kajiado, Kigumo, Githunguri and Kandara where over 15,000 small scale farmers have been trained and two thirds involved in exchange visits as a way of promoting knowledge and information exchange among the farmers.
COSDEP is governed by a Seven (7) member Board of governors, ran by a Director and has diligent and an experienced 10 member staff committed towards sustainably improving nutritional self sufficiency, and empowerment for better rural livelihoods. Our Mission Statement: We are committed to promoting sustainable development initiatives among the poor small scale farmers in Central region through participatory practices
