With panoramic views over the Samangua Valley and the Lewa Plains to the Ngare Ndare Forest and Mount Kenya beyond, The Lodge offers eight romantic and unique cottages, each with an open fireplace and private veranda. The grandfather of the present owners of Borana fell in love with the wildness and soul-enriching isolation of this land. In building the lodge, the Dyers took care not to lose this while ensuring that the Lodge offers the ultimate in luxury and comfort. All cottages are entirely secluded and have private views from both bedroom and bathroom of the valley below. The Lodge is designed to work in harmony with the landscape and is created from local, sustainable building materials. It enjoys an idyllic setting, 17 miles north of the equator and 6,000 feet above sea level, and is free from the malarial mosquito and the nights are cool. All areas of the Lodge overlook a lake that is a popular watering hole for the local animals so there is constant activity for guests to watch. Take a guide and walk down to the dam to enjoy a close-up view of elephants swimming! We at Borana are intent on contributing to environmental projects within our area. One of our key objectives is the preservation (conservation) of this incredible continent, its wildlife, habitat and the people that share the land. Over three generations, our family has dedicated extensive time, energy and finance to conservation. This has been achieved in a number different ways, many of which you will see whilst visiting Borana. We intend to continue contributing significantly to this and our focus is on the following needs: Education Poverty alleviation and employment Health Habitat management Wildlife conservation A large portion of all revenue generated though Borana goes towards achieving these commitments in order to secure the long-term future of Africa.
