The Umbrella Support Group is a community based organization that serves as a networking body for 12 support groups for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Maun and surrounding areas. The support groups collectively work to counsel PLWHA, distribute condoms around Maun, disseminate information about HIV/AIDS and conduct home visits to bedridden clients. The group also provides support to people living with chronic illnesses and others affected by HIV/AIDS. The Umbrella Support Group in the past has also worked to disseminate information to all audiences and stakeholders: government, elderly, and in and out of school youth. The group also coordinates activities for support groups to help each other to establish income generating activities. One such activity has been the establishment of a conservational park or nature reserve which belongs to the Lepolagang Support Group which can be used to generate income for locals. They have also conducted a nationwide tour to liaise with other support groups across Botswana to learn and adopt best practices from others around the country. The clients of umbrella support group are often referred to other NCONGO member organizations and other stakeholders. The Umbrella Support groups also advocates to effect change in legislation concerning PLWHA.
