The Khwai Development Trust (KDT) was founded in 2000 to represent the interests of the community of Khwai village, located between Moremi and Chobe National Park. The Trust takes responsibility of the NG18 area through a Joint Venture agreement for photographic tourism activities and NG19 for camping . Through the Trust the community have been empowered to play an active role in sustainable use of natural resources while ensuring that the benefits accrued from tourism activities trickle down to households. Khwai Development Trust (KDT) has a joint venture arrangement with Soren Lindstrom Safaris for the tourism activities in NG 18. In addition, the trust owns three bush camping sites in NG 19 namely, Magotho, Sable Ally and Matswere. Furthermore, KDT owns Tsaro Lodge which it has recently refurbished in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP). The said tourism ventures have empowered the community to play an active role in sustainable use of natural resources while ensuring that the benefits accruing from such trickle down to households.
