Zimbabwe Adult Learners Association (ZALA) is a non profit organisation operating in the rural areas of Zimbabwe with a membership derived mainly from women farmers. ZALA believes in a world where all communities are literate and enjoy economic and social prosperity in which they are active participants The mission of ZALA is to be a lead organisation in advocacy and provision of literacy and poverty reduction programmes for men, women and young adults at the grassroot level. Our organisation is a Community Based Organisation (CBO) which deals directly with the grassroots people and has a membership of 70 000 of which 80% are women. The Zimbabwe Adult Learners Association (ZALA) traces its origins to a learners conference that was held in 1994 under the auspices of a church sponsored community development organisation, Silveira House
