Zara's Center is a model respite program for AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, co-founded by Rachael Goldwasser Plutzik and Lesley Goldwasser. The PG Family Foundation, located in NYC, provides ongoing administrative and fiscal support for ZARA'S CENTER. Zara's Center provides nourishment, academic enrichment, medical care, work training, recreation, cultural and artistic development to hundreds of children in community-based and home-centered initiatives. Zara's Center opened its doors in 2006 and quickly became a respite for 400 children. Due to economic and political challenges, Zara's moved its programs into community spaces, and now shares facilities with a church partner. In late fall 2011, we will be moving into a permanent home. Zara's Center International Board of Directors has set a three-year goal of acquiring land and space in order to grow and refine programs - to meet the needs of children impacted by AIDS, in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
