The Womens Trust is a not-for-profit organisation working for the empowerment of women in tertiary Institutions and rural communities to enable them to participate fully in national development process. It does this through leadership development and personal empowerment training. The Womens Trust was formed in 2000 with the realization that while there is already a dynamic and vibrant womens movement in Zimbabwe, there remains a gap in relation to enhancing the capacities of women in decision-making. Changes taking place globally call for a new way planning developing priorities and for changing the processes of managing this development. In order for effective and positive development to take place it is important for women to access positions of decision - making, while on the other hand ensuring that the capacities of those already in power are enhanced to enable them to be key players in championing gender responsiveness in heir respective communities and institutions. The Womens Trust is committed to contributing towards the achievement of Goal Number 3 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which is to promote gender equality and empower women.
