Southern Alliance for Indigenous Resources (SAFIRE)
Objectives
To develop the self-sufficiency of rural communities through the improved management and sustainable utilisation of indigenous natural resources. To support and develop the management capabilities of local level institutions in sustainable natural resource utilisation. To encourage local efforts and responsibility in participatory natural resource management. To assist in the alleviation of environmental degradation in refugee impacted areas. To encourage collaboration between those institutions active in indigenous resource management. To advocate for policies that achieve any of the above.
Mission Statement
To facilitate the development and application of innovative approaches to diversify and improve rural livelihoods based on the utilisation, commercialisation and sustainable management of natural resources.
Vision
To be the regional leader and service provider of first choice in benefit driven sustainable natural resources management by rural communities. Sectors Agriculture; Environment; Gender; Micro Finance; Poverty Alleviation; Research/Documentation/Information Dissemination; Rural Development; Wildlife; Information Communication Technologies (ICTs).
