Shurugwi Partners is a Community Based Organization formed in March 2008 by community members who are concerned by the rapid deterioration of rural livelihoods, public health and the physical environment in the Shurugwi district of the Midlands Province in Zimbabwe. In March 2008, the founders strongly opposed the lack of active grassroots community participation in local projects as well as the ongoing emigration of youths from rural areas to other countries in search for greener pastures.
This has already stretched thin the socio economic fabric of their communities, leading to their unproductive, underdevelopment and marginalization. Through an extensive consultation with stakeholders including local authorities, government departments and NGOs, they deemed it fit to implement projects with a holistic approach in areas of concern, with major emphasis on the active grassroots community participation. As an approach in programming, Shurugwi Partners gives attention to the poor of the poorest who in most cases require a minimum assistance to get their feet on the development ladder.
