The Zambia Alliance of Women (ZAW) was founded in 1978 to promote the themes of equality, development and peace, in recognition that without true gender equality peace would remain an illusion in a state of poverty and war. ZAW is a membership non-governmental, non-profit making, non-partisan service organisation. It was registered under the Societies Act in March 1982.
