Worldwide over 2.4 billion people still cook and heat using wood and other biomass. This dependence contributes significantly to deforestation, anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and health issues from indoor air pollution. With traditional stoves much heat is transmitted through the sides of the stove, into the environment. This is very inefficient, needing more fuel to complete a given cooking task. As an alternative Ugastove supplies household charcoal stoves, Rocket wood stoves, institutional stoves, and custom design stoves. Ugastove products address the following issues: More efficient combustion saves money for consumers through reduced fuel costs. Reduction in the emission of harmful pollutants that can cause respiratory illnesses - a particular problem for women and children who suffer the effects when food is cooked indoors. Relieves some of the increasing pressure on Ugandan forests, which are being exploited for fuel. Currently, Ugandan deforestation rates are estimated at 2.2% per annum - one of the highest rates in the world. (Research statistic from a CARE report). Reduced greenhouse gas emissions as proven through the Kitchen Performance Test (KPT) studies.
