Our aim at Simply Hibi is to supply our customers with high quality natural products created using hibiscus grown for us by our Ugandan farmers. Hibiscus is an unusual and versatile plant, prized in the tropics for its beneficial properties and its' powerful colour and flavour. We are currently working with around 2000 Ugandan farmers each farming on average a total of just three acres. Many of these farmers are in the northern part of Uganda which until recently was disrupted by an armed conflict which resulted in most of the rural population seeking refuge in the towns and villages. The best way to assist these farmers in returning to the land and re-establishing successful communities is to engage with them in a sustainable, commercial way. Growing for Simply Hibi provides farmers with an opportunity to generate a dependable and much needed cash income which is otherwise difficult to secure. In addition to the opportunity to generate a cash income, we also provide our farmers with training in organic farming methods and practices. This is especially useful as the relative cost of inorganic chemicals and fertilisers is very high and the knowledge of organic methods can be applied to the growing of food crops as well as hibiscus.
