Kabissa is a volunteer-led non-governmental organization founded in 1999 and organized in the United States as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to help African civil society organizations to put Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to work for the benefit of their communities. Kabissa represents a vision to empower grassroots organizations in Africa to take control over their own means of communication. While Facebook and other leading social networks are great and all organizations should be using them in support of their nonprofit mission, they are run by corporations that serve their shareholders first and have a track record of changing features without warning and using user data in unanticipated and potentially risky ways. They should therefore not be the only place where we conduct our business and we should use them with caution.
