Coalition on Political Accountability to Women (COPAW)
The Coalition on Political Accountability for Women (COPAW) is a Ugandan coalition that brings together women activists and academicians with an objective of ensuring that gender development concerns play a more central role in the political and legal processes. COPAW's activities include political leadership building through training, especially of women, and capacity building for communities through community outreach. COPAW was launched with the help of the Eastern African Sub-regional Support Initiative for the advancement of women (EASSI) and support by Isis Women's International Cross-Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE).
The main objective of COPAW is to promote participation and influence of women in building a gender responsive political leadership, and to create an enabling environment that meets the social and political needs of the Ugandan people. This is achieved through capacity building, lobbying and advocacy, agenda setting, monitoring of political accountability and providing space for women leaders.
