Uchumi Commercial Bank Limited (UCB Ltd.) is a regional commercial bank, licensed to operate in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. The bank is owned by over 330,000 average Tanzanians who are members of the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT-ND). It is on the southern slopes of lofty Mt. Kilimanjaro, serving customers from all over Tanzania and overseas from Moshi. Incorporation (Date and Area) On 19th September 2005 the Bank of Tanzania approved UCB Ltd. request to commence banking operations and licensed UCB Ltd. to operate as a regional unit bank based in Moshi Municipality, Kilimanjaro Region. UCB Ltd. has been granted Licence No. CBA 00031. UCB Ltd. correspondence code is A168. A notice to the general public issued by Bank of Tanzania was published in the local papers on 7th October 2005, informing them that UCB Ltd. is a licensed regional unit bank and it can issue documents and enter into transactions as a licensed regional unit bank. Our Vision UCB Ltd. vision is to have a northern Tanzania in which majority of people have convenient access to affordable financial services, through sustainable microfinance institutions. Our Mission The bank shall provide operationally and financially sustainable banking services, starting with a branch in Moshi municipality, and eventually in all Kilimanjaro districts. Throughout, a strong linkage shall be maintained with parish-based savings and credit cooperative societies (saccos) serving entire communities, irrespective of religious belief.
