Karatu Development Association (KDA) was founded by local village leaders and councilors of the former Karatu sub-district to bring sustainable development to the people of the district, which can supplement government efforts. In September 1991 KDA was registered as a NGO by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Up to now KDA is a community-based and a development-oriented NGO with main focus on operational project management. Thereby, KDA focus more on participation than just service delivery. KDA works throughout Karatu District and has offices based in Karatu town. Vision KDA`s vision is to promote a self-reliant society arising through sustainable development efforts in Karatu District. Mission KDA`s mission is to facilitate development in Karatu District, by encouraging local people to increase their income, to improve their social services and protect their environment, through awareness raising, training and mobilization of resources, working with groups and individuals committed to development.
