The Grasslands Programme is a partnership between government, the private sector and civil society that promotes the protection and sustainable use of South Africa's threatened grasslands. The programme aims to influence policies, plans and decision-making in the sectors of agriculture, forestry, urban development and coal mining to direct the development footprint away from critical biodiversity areas, and to promote innovative greener production practices. The Grasslands Programme also supports provincial conservation agencies to establish biodiversity stewardship agreements with private land owners.
