SEED is a small and well-rooted Public Benefits Organisation that has grown out of the harsh Cape Flats school environment and is now operating a national school-based program that grows Outdoor Classrooms in South Africa's poorer schools. Over the past ten years we have developed a wealth of experience in areas ranging from curriculum development for environmental education to green entrepreneurship. Our methodology is based on a design system for sustainable living and land use called Permaculture that teaches a new breed of environmental ethics, with earth care, people care and surplus share at its core. SEEDs vision is to grow ecological intellengence and connect children to the ecosystems that support them. SEEDs committment to real and not rhetorical sustainability now sees the birth of the Rocklands Urban Abundance Centre in Mitchells Plain. The centre is a hub for environmental learning, Permaculture demonstration, and community enterprise, and will come to serve as a model for integrated effective solutions to the growing crisis facing humanity.
