"De Hoop (named after the original horse stud in the area, Hope Farm) was proclaimed a Nature Reserve in 1957. It has been extended since then to incorporate a marine protected area and is now a total of 36 000ha - one of the largest remaining examples of indigenous lowland and coastal Fynbos. Species such as bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, numerous small mammals, 260 bird species and over 1500 Fynbos species can be seen at the reserve.
Activities such as hiking, mountain biking, game-viewing, bird-watching, snorkelling and swimming are among the many on offer at the reserve. Overnight facilities are in self-catering cottages or in one of the ten campsites
