Root Capital has sought out women-dominated enterprises in the region, and has provided $210,000 in pre-shipment trade credit in support of Maraba Coffee Growers Association and the Karaba Coffee Cooperative. The cooperatives claim over 3,500 members, many of whom were widowed and further ravaged by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The cooperative has been instrumental in recovery and reconstruction after the violence, and in increasing the quality of life for thousands of families in the Maraba and Karaba districts.
