Ikiraro Investments is a Rwandan corporation looking for a hand up and not a hand out. This organization's core value is centered on education as the foundation to establish and sustain businesses to address local poverty and hunger concerns. The business was started because he saw the great need for protein in the diet of the children there - protein is essential for proper brain development in children ages 0 to 5 years old.
Tom Phillips of Memphis TN established Ikiraro in 2009 to serve as an investment holding company to build operating businesses in Rwanda. In 2010, Ikiraro Farms launched a poultry business in Musanze to produce as many as 7,000 chicken eggs a day. Tyson Foods, one of the world's largest processors and marketers of chicken, beef and pork products, has served as Ikiraro's technical advisor on the poultry business. Ikiraro has also partnered with Dr. Caleb King to develop mini-hydro power projects in Rwanda's Northern Province. Bridge2Rwanda facilitated the organization of Ikiraro and continues to support its activities.
