The NGO Young Africa (YA) works holistically with underprivileged youngsters between 15 and 25 years. It sets up empowerment projects that can be replicated. Young Africa started in 1998 in Zimbabwe. In 2006 the association Young Africa Mozambique was founded. This independent non-governmental organisation is the legal owner of the projects in Beira, Mozambique.
Changing the face of Manga - Beira
In Beira, on a plot of land donated by the Municipality of Beira, the Young Africa Centro de Formacao was opened in August 2007. We offer non formal skills training in 10 different market-oriented trades, teachers training, academic coaching classes for school drop outs, and run a hostel programme for orphan girls. We have micro credit facilities, organise annual awareness festivals and offer community services as sports, games, arts, library, internet café and a creche.
