SNV Mozambique initiated in 2001 a programme to revive the ailing cashew industry in Nampula province. The project CASCA consists of four components. Business and technical training focused on the improvement of the growing of cashew trees as well as the primary processing of the cashew nuts. Second, microcredit for the processing of the cashew nuts. Third, the involvement of the private sector to set up a processing plant. Fourth, exploration of the export market. SNV has identified implementing partners for each of these components. Hivos supports the first two components through ADPP (training) and AMODER (credit). AMODER is a registered rural development association, established in 1993. The organisation operates nationaly and has its head office in Maputo
