At Mon Choix, we are making a serious effort to be eco-friendly, to promote a greener Mauritius, to be part of the leaders in the implementation of the "Maurice - Ile Durable" Government policy and to contribute as much as possible to making the world a better place. It is against this background, that we have created and will soon launched www.green-mauritius.com (a website to contribute to the national effort to promote and protect the environment on the island and which will address the aspect of Management, Health & Well-being, Energy, Transport, Water, Material & Waste, Land Use & Ecology and Pollution). Another indirect "eco" website will be www.dodoisland.com (intended to be the most complete DODO MUSEUM in the world).
Light bulbs are of energy-saving type (as much as possible), All rooms have a notice to guests to save energy by switching off lights, fans and air-conditioners. All bathrooms have been equipped with a shower in order to discourage baths. All electricity water-heaters have been replaced by small gas heaters. Solar (panels) energy is being installed to reduce gas consumption in the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. The kitchen is almost 100% gas operated. Environment-friendly fridges are often checked to minimize electricity consumption. The staff is regularly reminded of the stipulated energy-saving policy and procedures to save electricity and gas. Candle-light is used to a maximum in all common rooms (living rooms, dining rooms, entrance and verendahs) and encouraged as being more charming. All rooms are supplied with candles.
