Ecotourism lodge with single, double and family chalets and a camp site. One of the main aims at Makuzi has been working with the local community in self-help development projects. The Shanti Trust was set up to implement and control the projects. Over the years The Shanti Trust has assisted with getting the finances to build the Macalpine Primary school, build houses for the teachers, getting sponsorship for the salaries for 4 Malawian teachers and has just recently completed the building of a new school block which is fully equipped with a library and a computer room. The Trust built a volunteer house for outside volunteers who have assisted in many projects in the village from teaching women about nutrition and health, the community about erosion and farming to helping teach at Macalpine School.
There is a Museum that has been established which is worth a visit. Here you will find artefacts which relate to daily village life of old and will be taken on an entertaining journey with the stories behind each object.
A big part of the projects has been planting trees in the community and further afield. To date The Shanti Trust has planted over 200000 trees including soft woods, hard woods and fruit trees.
Smaller projects for women's groups like a bakery and Mbula pot making have been established.
The assistance at an orphan care centre is a big project. A classroom was built and supplying of toys and clothes is ongoing. They have a feeding program and supplying of food is also continuous.
