CPL plants species of trees for oil and timber production as well as replenishing the local indigenous hardwood and soft wood population that has severly affected by deforestation. Our main business is in essential oil production and more particularly, the production of lemon Eucalytpus oil used in natural insect repellants and the cosmetic industry. We will also expand into other types of essential oils for the Malawian market and for export, such as lemongrass and rose geranium. CPL employs over 200 Malawian staff with the senior management mainly Malawian, and has only two expats. The 5,700ha of land that CPL has on a long term lease is beautiful virgin hilly terrain with a cool, favourable climate due to its altitude. The land is in the middle of a man made pine forest, the biggest in Malawi. However, much of it is being harvested and not replanted, and indigenous forest is also being affected as well. CPL is committed to planting between 50-100ha of indigenous hardwood plantation on its land and in the surrounding areas to create a sustainable business for the local communites for the future.
