We provide consultancy services which build capacity of local communities affected by major projects with potential huge impacts on people and environment.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of LEJAC is to serve communities affected by planning, constrution, operation and maintenance of MANPPHIPEs and other environmental issues. This will be done through community organizing, education, empowerment, monitoring, advocacy and litigation. The ultimate mission is to unite and enhance capacity of the communities to defend their rights and maximize the benefits of projects to themselves.
THE CENTRE'S AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
~ To provide professional advice and support on social and environmental issues to communities affected by the MANPPHIPEs.
~ To facilitate process of empowering the people through community organizing that they are made aware of their own strengths and ultimate responsibilities as equal partners with Government and Project Authorities.
~ To develop educational and other information materials and distribute to the communities.
~ To monitor activities of Projects Authorities and advocate for observance of environmental human rights of the communities such as fair compensation and avoiding where possible forced removals.
~ To inform, mobilize and sensitize the nation and international community on effects of the projects on the people and environment.
~ To act as a link in building partnerships between Civil Society Organizations and communities affected by MANPPHIPEs.
