This is a Community Based Natural Resource Management organization operating in the North Western region of Ngamiland District, Botswana. It was legally registered as a Trust in 1995 and has user rights over the concession areas allocated to it. These concession areas are NG 33 and NG 34 which are 6 000 hectares and 87 000 hectares respectively. These areas have been used for both photographic and hunting safaris for the past fifteen years. The government has now introduced a new policy which abolishes hunting in the community concessions so from March 2012; we will be doing photographic activities only for the next 15 years. Sankuyo trust can be located on the following GPS coordinates: S19?31.012 and E023?35.683 The Trust is currently operating Kaziikini Campsite and Shandereka Cultural Village which are located in NG 34, just about 5km from Mawana Buffalo Fence. Santawani Lodge which is jointly owned by Sankuyo Trust and their partner Lodges of Botswana is situated in NG 33 where most of the game is abundant. The Trust uses its revenue to provide employment to people of Sankuyo Village to fund community projects. Currently the Trust employs 39 permanent staff as cleaners, drivers, community escort guides, camp staff and various office positions. Community projects include the building of a community hall with DSTV, the supply of water to all households, the building of destitute houses, the sponsorship of the football club, funeral grants and scholarships. In 2010 the Trust sponsored 21 students for various courses such as tourism and hospitality, business management, housekeeping, chef training and driving school training. Currently the Trust is carrying out a water toilet building programme for every household in the village. These will replace an enviro-loo project that was not successful. Other plans include an irrigated vegetable garden and an orchard garden which will only be done should the soil PH support such projects.
