Komku Trust is committed to the development of the San and other minority groups in the Ghanzi district. Komku's development work endeavours to bring about a positive change of lifestyle among the marginalised communities through activities of mobilisation, organisation, training and technical support for self-sustainable activities leading to long term improvement of the livelihood of the people. aims to support the development of an enabling environment that creates strong, equitable, healthy, stable and empowered communities in the settlements of Ghanzi District. Western Botswana. We do this by supporting the livelihood choices of the San in the settlements of the Ghanzi region and by creating an environment that supports a greater diversity of livelihood options. We offer advice and technical assistance when required, particularly in natural resource conservation, enterprise development, health and equality.
Through this, we aim to create empowered, independent communities who know their rights, options and potentials and how to achieve them. We work towards increasing the financial sustainability of our target groups and to create a social environment that respects and takes pride in the San culture.
Our activities concentrate on:
CBO capacity building support to community Trusts
A public health programme in collaboration with Letloa, working with TB and HIV/AIDS through Direct Observable Treatment Support
A shelter programme for destitute community members
A garden programme with cash crop pilots with Hoodia as well as clinic gardens
Youth and Sports activities, notably the annual Kudu Cup that is integrated with health activities
A heritage and relocation programme with oral history, in collaboration with Letloa
