The Kagisano Society Women's Shelter Project changes the lives of women and children affected by domestic violence in Botswana. Our Tshireletso Drop-In-Centre provides counselling, medical and legal support. Our Boikhutsong Shelter is a temporary home for survivors of domestic violence who have no other place to go for safety. Our Outreach programme, sensitises and disseminates information about gender-based violence and focuses attention on the link between domestic violence and the spread of HIV and AIDS. Our Economic Empowerment programme empowers women with survival and life skills so they can start income generating projects. The Women's Shelter Project helped 550 individuals affected by violence and ran almost 700 counselling sessions in 2008. The project has big plans to roll out the programme to the rest of the country and to establish a gender-based violence prevention programme together with a couple and perpetrator support programme.
