An accredited training institution for rural minorities offering quality education for preschool teachers. Through Bokamoso, children in the rural communities of West and North West Botswana are reached, and preschool teachers, chosen by their own communities, receive in-service training. Bokamoso has extended its support to the 'forgotten' groups of young children on farms, small settlements and urban slums.
Since its foundation in 1983, Bokamoso has continuously sought to build its role as a culturally relevant educational programme for its target population. What started as a preschool for the benefit of San children in D'Kar gradually developed into a preschool teacher training programme, reaching other rural settlements, to provide access to more San and equally marginalised children to ECD, thereby creating their foundation for school readiness and other transitions. By fostering a familiar linguistic and cultural environment in preschools, involving parents and traditional educators in the curriculum, more opportunities have been provided.
